Castle Paffendorf was built in the 16th century for the purpose of agriculture. The castle is composed of two big towers, manor houses and court yard in the middle. Additionally, a big pond in the backyard and a moat surrounded the castle are there to give more leisure feelings to the castle.
The owner of the castle to RWE Power who pours huge capitals in this castle for renovation and restoration. RWE reuses part of the castle as coal mine museum exhibiting cultural relics and energy generation process of coal mine power. A restaurant in the courtyard is open to provide services. Christmas market starting from end of November every year is a bazaar where you can buy beautiful decorations, clothes and jewelry.
