The valley formed by River Rhein and River Erft shares geographical similarity with Holland. Around 50 castles were built since middle age and finished in 18th century in this area. Most of them are surrounded with moats. These castles are mostly small but nice to see although they do not have the grandeur like Versailles or Palace Sanssouci has. Greatly influenced by the arts of middle age, Renaissance, Barocco in 17th century and Rococo in 18th century, these castles symbolize unique mixture of varieties of cultures transpiring unforgettable impressions. Due to financial difficulties of being not able to continue by their own power, these castles are now overtaken and sponsored by local governments or foundations to restore their original appearances and carry new functions. These castles are now mostly renewed to be ideal venues for festivals and art activities or exhibitions. The following introduced castles are very close to Weng-Hennen House reachable by car or public transportations.
